A shear test or direct shear test according to ISO 17892-10 is used in soil mechanics and foundation engineering to determine the shear strength (as well as residual shear strength) and is carried out in a direct shear tester. The ISO 17892-10:2018 standard replaces the previously valid standards DIN 18137-3:2002-09 and DIN ISO/TS 17892-10:2005-01.
